Vodafone 3G data card error 619 "Port disconnected"
Error 619 when trying to connect is not an uncommon issue. Usually it's the result of either a Services issue, Profile issue or a port conflict.
Services:
First confirm what LED’s are flashing on the card. Red means GPRS is available, Blue means 3G is available and if both are flashing together, the card is still trying to acquire a service/reception.
Try the following in any instance:
* Remove the SIM for 20 seconds, reinsert it into the datacard.
* If this fails, try placing the SIM into a phone, waiting for Vodafone to display on the screen, confirm reception is available and reinserting the SIM into the datacard.
This will update the original services on the SIM card.
Profiles:
Open the Vodafone Dashboard (with the data card inserted) and perform the following (note this is only if you have the full Vodafone Mobile Connect software installed, not the Plug n Play 'Lite' software):
Click Tools > Mobile Profiles > Edit
Click on the 3G Preferred connection and click OK (there will be a delay while the profile opens)
Select Contract and click Next
Select PC Datacard and click Next
Insert SIM in to data card and Data Card in to laptop and click Next
In the next screen ensure 'Prefer 3G, but allow GPRS network' is selected and click Next
In the following screen check the following parameters and then click Next:
APN: internet
Username: web
Password: web
Use authentication should be ticked
Click Next again (Internet Protocols and Security Settings should not been amended)
Click Next a summary of what has been entered will be shown, then
Click Finish.
The dashboard should then re-open and try to run the connection again.
In instances where the above does not prove successful I'd advise setting up a manual Dial-up connection. Installing the Dashboard has two uses; it installs the drivers for the card and then the Dashboard interface on top. Therefore you can set up the connection manually and never have to use the Dashboard. You must leave the Dashboard installed, as the card will need the drivers to operate. To set up the connection manually follow these steps:
Go to Start, Settings/Control Panel then click on Network ConnectionsFileNew connection.
Enter the following information:
Click Next
Select 'Connect to the Internet' > click Next
'Set up my connection manually' > click Next
'Connect using a dial up modem' > click Next
Place a tick in 'Modem - Huawei’ or ‘Option’ if using an Option cardand remove all other ticks > click Next
ISP name can be anything > click Next
Phone number must be *99# > click Next
Create this connection for: user preference > click Next
Username: web / Password: web > click Next
Place a tick in ‘Add a shortcut to your desktop for this connection’
Click Finish
Click Dial
In future double click on the new icon on your desktop rather than using the Dashboard (which you do not even need to have running).
If the profiles appear to be configured correctly, check the ports for conflicts:
Port Conflicts: and create a new connection from the top of the menu by clicking on then
1. With the data card inserted, right-click on the My Computer icon and select Manage
2. Click on Device Manager (left of the Computer Management window)
3. Expand Ports COM & LPT (right side of the Computer Management window). In here you should see two devices listed as Huawei or Option if using an Option card, these will be your data card ports. In brackets next to each device will be listed port numbers (i.e. COM 6, COM 4). Ensure that no other devices listed within Ports use the same COM numbers.
